Winnipeg Jets with a 6-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes sweeps mentors trip to push points streak to 12 games

The Jets run continues as they defeated the Coyotes 6-2 in Arizona to improve to 26-9-4 on the season. It has been over two months since the Jets gave up more than three goals. The streak is currently 29 games.

They’ve also hit six straight wins, a 12 game points streak (10-0-2) and will finish the night in top spot in the NHL.

Notable:

Nikolaj Ehlers now has sole possession for 4th spot on the most games played wearing a Jets uniform list with game number 562.

Brenden Dillon played in his 200th game wearing a Winnipeg Jets jersey.

Dylan Samberg hits double digits in assists for the first time. He is in his second full season in the NHL.

Jets outshot the Coyotes 15-4 in the opening period of play at Mullet Arena holding a 1-0 lead courtesy of Vlad Namestnikov’s fifth of the season. That gives him eight points in his last six games.

Adam Lowry and Jack McBain had a big tilt to start the middle frame.

The Jets got the benefit of a fortunate bounce back to Nikolaj Ehlers who wired it home to make it 2-0. That was his 14th of the year.

After Winnipeg got off to an 8-0 shot edge to start the 2nd, Arizona cut the lead in half with Nick Schmaltz finding space above Hellebuyck’s shoulder on the first shot of the period for the home team at the 8:10 mark.

About eight minutes later Connor Hellebuyck made a big stop to keep his team up one which was important as Cole Perfetti gave them a 3-1 lead with his 12th goal of the season.

In the final frame Mark Scheifele made it a 4-1 game with his 13th goal of the season after a nice pass by Nikolaj Ehlers to send him away on the breakaway. That was his first goal in eight games.

2021 1st rounder of the Coyotes Dylan Guenther took advantage of a miscue behind the Jets net to cut the lead for Winnipeg over the Coyotes to 4-2 with 7:27 left in the 3rd.

Right after Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers failed to capitalize on a 2 on 0, number 55 put in into the empty net to make it a 5-2 game.

And they weren’t done there as the captain Adam Lowry scored late to make it 6-2 for Winnipeg.

Probably worth noting that the Winnipeg Jets have rocketed to the top of the NHL with the dulcet tones of Saxophone Squirtle playing during this journey to number one. 7-0-1 since the first appearance…..

Multipoint Game:
