Winnipeg Jets win streak ends at five games as comeback against the Predators falls short

The five-game win streak of the Jets is over as the Predators take this one 3-2. Winnipeg loses their first game in regulation in over two weeks to fall to 12-6-2 at the 20-game mark of the season. They are 8-2-0 in last ten.

Notable:

Have to credit Nashville goalie Jussi Saros who was excellent in the opening 20 minutes of play making 14 stops numerous (6) high dangers chance for Winnipeg.

Despite a good start to the opening period for the Jets it was the Predators who opened the scoring. When you watch the replay of that first goal it was not a great defensive effort by the Jets top line. It was a 30 second shift for them but they were in cruise control. Kyle Connor even shoulder checks but doesn’t accelerate to keep up with Yakov Trenin or Michael McCarron.

The middle frame had a less than ideal start for the Jets as Laurent Brossoit was beat by a sharp angled stinker to give the Preds a 2-0 lead. Then a power play goal by Nashville gave the home team a stranglehold on this contest.

Winnipeg still managed a few more solid chances but each time they did Saros kept making the stops.

Things weren’t looking good in the final frame as the Preds held a 6-2 shot edge but then Josh Morrissey put home his own rebound and then Cole Perfetti scored on the power play 42 seconds later to give Winnipeg life.

Cole Perfetti on pace for 29 this season.

2023-24: 7G in 20 games
2022-23: 8G in 51 games.

On the second goal by Winnipeg, Mark Scheifele picked up his 16th of the season which puts him on pace for 65 this season. His career high is 50 in 2016-17.

Try as they might the comeback fell short as Saros stood tall for the remainder of the game and Winnipeg couldn’t get the equalizer.
