The Jets played their 82nd game on Thursday night which was a meaningless contest against the Avalanche in Colorado which saw them drop the game 4-2. The late games however did have relevance as the Oilers defeated the Sharks which meant the Golden Knights had to secure at least one point to finish 1st overall in the Western Conference. They secured two for good measure when they defeated the Kraken by a final score of 3-1 which locked Vegas in as the top seed in the west.
This also meant that it would be a re-match of the 2017-18 Western Conference Finals between Winnipeg and Vegas which saw the Golden Knights defeat the Jets in five games.
The atmosphere has never been matched both inside and outside the arena as that Winnipeg club went farther than any other NHL club in the NHL history of the ‘Peg . The Whiteout Street Party was born.
These two clubs haven’t played in 2023 but had three games between the start of the season and December which were all won by the Golden Knights. All but one were one goal games. (October 20 in Vegas was 5-2, October 30 in Vegas was 2-1 in OT and December 13 in Winnipeg 6-5).
Of course these are two very different clubs than the ones that faced off five years ago. We will have more in-depth analysis coming your way over the coming days.
We do know that game 1 will be on Tuesday, April 18th and game 2 will be on Thursday, April 20th.
