Winnipeg Jets Training Camp Day 9 recap

The big question mark heading into day 9 of Jets training camp was the status of Cole Perfetti who was caught by a blindside hit at the end of the 2nd period with the team holding him out for the 3rd as a precaution. Head coach Rick Bowness said after the game that the centre would be re-evaluated today.

The day began with the Jets splitting into two groups for the skate. Of course when they sent out the release it only showed 41 of the 50 players that remain in training camp.

Those nine missing players (Wyatt Bongiovanni, Danny Zhilkin, Nikita Chibrikov, Cole Perfetti, Colby Barlow, Henri Nikkanen, Nate Schmidt, Kyle Capobianco and Thomas Milic) were either injured, recovering from injury or in the case of Milic the fifth goalie at camp.

The morning skate was the more veteran group comprised of 23 players although one player who was scheduled to participate but that wasn’t out on the ice was Mason Appleton. On the ice in a yellow, non-contact uniform was Nikolaj Ehlers, who is recovering from neck spasms.

When the main group switched rinks they cleaned the ice surface and the IR skate took place on the ice they had just vacated. Five of the nine players not listed as part of the two groups would skate at this time including Cole Perfetti who was wearing a regular jersey. He was joined on the ice by Colby Barlow (illness), Henri Nikkanen (thumb), Nate Schdmit (unknown at that time) and Thomas Milic (extra goalie in camp).

Following skate we heard from Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor.

After these two spoke we heard from Jets head coach Rick Bowness. He provided a breakdown of the players who were missing due to injury. We also learned that 2023 1st rounder Colby Barlow wouldn’t be getting in a pre-season game before he will be returned to the OHL.

Just as we finished writing about the morning group it was time to watch group 2 hit the ice for a skate. This is the group that is expected to take on the Senators tomorrow night in Ottawa.

The lines were:

Torgersson-Lambert-Viel
Harkins-Lucius-Reichel
Malott-Toninato-Jonsson-Fjallby

And based on the roster the Jets released in the afternoon

Barron-Gustafsson-Ford will be a line as well.

The Jets will see non-playing group skating tomorrow morning at 9:15 AM with the playing group flying off to Ottawa. Puck drop is at 6 PM.
