With the impending return of Dylan Demelo to the Winnipeg Jets line-up, the team needed to make a player transaction to remain compliant with the 23-man roster rule.
After today’s practice, Jets Head Coach Rick Bowness announced that the team has satisfied that requirement by placing Axel Jonsson-Fjällby on Waivers, describing it to the assembled media as a move the team didn’t want to make and going further in saying, “selfishly, we’re hoping we don’t lose him”.
In 45 games played this season, the first-year Jets player, originally acquired off waivers from Washington, has four goals and seven assists. Per Stephen Whyno of Associated Press, because the Jets claimed Jonsson-Fjällby off waivers from the Washington Capitals earlier this season, the team in the U.S. Capital has the option to re-claim him and send him to the AHL.
We will know in 24 hours if the Jets’ are able to pass Axel Jonsson-Fjällby through waivers and maintain possession of his playing rights.
