Winnipeg Jets suffer first loss of the season as Maple Leafs take it 6-4

The Jets PP worked
The Jets PK worked
The Jets 6 on 5 worked
The Jets 5 on 5 not so much.

And as a result the Jets lose 6-4 to the Leafs which means they are undefeated no more as they fall to 8-1-0 on the season.

Notable:

The Leafs requested to wear their dark uniforms which meant it was a rare night that the Jets wore their road whites at home. It’s happened before but not very often. Which then had me curious if folks prefer dark or light jerseys at home. What say you?

The only positive from the opening period of play for Winnipeg was they successfully killed off both Toronto power plays as the PK continues to join the PP as red-hot.

That was about it for the 1st period as the Leafs were all over the Jets putting two goals behind Connor Hellebuyck and outshooting the home team 18-7.

Thinking the home team would respond in the middle frame you’d be mistaken. It was the visitors as Matthew Knies and Morgan Rielly went bang bang to quickly (3:25 into the period) make it a 4-0 game.

No surprise that again the special teams were good for Winnipeg as they went two for three in the 2nd period on their top ranked power play with Kyle Connor scoring both goals. And he had a glorious chance during the second power play to score as well. He’s on pace for over 70 goals this season.

The line blender came out but it didn’t have the positive impact as John Tavares made it 5-2 with just a few minutes left in the 2nd.

Winnipeg was able to get back within two as they again scored with the man advantage. This time is was on a 6 on 5 (which they’ve done multiple times this season) due to a delayed penalty against Toronto. Kyle Connor made a spectacular pass to Mark Scheifele who one-timed it to the back of the net for his sixth of the season.

With Connor Hellebuyck pulled the Jets of course scored 6 on 5 to bring themselves within one as Gabriel Vilardi got his second as he tipped a Kyle Connor shot.

Josh Morrissey with ten assists in nine games (courtesy of his three tonight) is on pace for an 91 assist season.

One positive for the organization was they got their first sellout of the season in game five at home.

Multipoint Game:

Kyle Connor 3G 1A
Josh Morrissey 3A
Mark Scheifele 1G 1A
