Winnipeg Jets strike first but Montreal Canadiens take over in 5–1 loss as Olympic break arrives

After playing an excellent 1st period the Jets slowed and the Canadiens took over and rolled to a 5-1 win as the Olympic break arrives which should put an end to any playoff talk.

Notable:

This game had a bit of a Habs home game as there were a lot of Ole Ole Ole folks in attendance at CLC for the Jets and Canadiens game.

The four Jets heading to Italy for the Winter Olympics (Morrissey, Hellebuyck, Connor & Niederreiter) were honoured before the game.

The Jets honoured Caden Fine, Cameron Casorso and JJ Wright before the game after they tragically lost their young lives in a motor vehicle accident.

Jets came out on fire to start the 1st period holding a 7-0 shot edge. The seventh shot was a goal by Kyle Connor who gets his 25th of the season on the power play. That’s the ninth straight season 81 has hit the 25 goal mark. He’s done that in every single season he’s played a full one.

The home team had chances to add to their lead in the 1st. Kyle Connor hit the post while both Vlad Namestnikov and Nino Niederreiter had excellent chances.

Only in Winnipeg do the snow plows merit a video tribute.

Winnipeg sports broadcaster Peter Young honoured by the Jets. He passed away at the age of 79.

But then the “visitors” (with enough fans to be the home team) scored three straight to take over the game. They tied it in the 1st and scored two more in the 2nd to take a commanding 3-1 lead.

They’d allow two more goals in the 3rd for a real exclamation point and to essentially put any end to the illusion of the playoffs.

Multi Point Game:

None.
