Winnipeg Jets start out flat, special teams aren’t special but they fight back for a point as Habs take it 3-2 in OT

The Jets strong December took a bit of a hit as the Habs took this one 3-2 in OT courtesy of Justin Barron’s power play goal. The special teams continue to be a problem for Winnipeg although plenty of folks had issues with the calls made in this game. Jets are now 18-9-3 on the season. They are still without a regulation loss vs the East going 7-0-3.

Notable:

The Jets spotted the Habs a 2-0 lead as the opportunistic visitors took advantage of a slow start by the home team who got going late in the middle frame to make it a one goal contest.

There was a lot of controversy over the second goal by Montreal as many perceived it to be a hand pass by Josh Anderson but the guy with the best view (Connor Hellebuyck) post-game said it just barely touched his Anderson’s stick making it a legal play and not a hand pass.

Eventually the man who spent the morning talking about the Macarena got it playing in the building as Gabriel Vilardi scored his fifth goal of the season (giving him five goals in his last five games). His five goals and five assists in 12 games would be a 68 point pace in a full 82-game season.

After going six games without scoring Cole Perfetti got back on the scoresheet with his 10th goal of the season which is the first time the 2020 1st rounder has his double digits in the NHL. He’s on pace for a 54 point season which would be a career high.

Bit of controversy as the refs put the whistles away it seemed but called a late 3rd period penalty against Nikolaj Ehlers for tripping. The penalty carried over into the OT when Justin Barron beat Connor Hellebuyck (and his brother Morgan) with the OT GWG.
