Winnipeg Jets special teams not special as five-game points streak comes to an end in 5-2 loss to Vegas

There’s a reason the defending Stanley Cup champs haven’t lost in regulation this season. Vegas improves to 10-0-1 defeating Winnipeg 5-2. Jets fall to 4-4-2 on the season as the points streak ends at 5 games.

Notable:

The story of this game for Winnipeg is special teams. As you can see the 5 on 5 numbers were good for the Jets. But their power play dropped from 23rd last year to 25th so far. Not that shocking. But the penalty kill going from 7th best in the NHL last season to 30th is pretty, pretty unexpected.

Kyle Connor scored a filthy goal and it was also his sixth goal in 10 games which is pretty impressive given he had two goals in his first 18 games last season. Puts him on pace for 50 this season.

Speaking of ‘on pace’ Alex Iafallo‘s current carrer high for goals is 17 (twice) but with four goals in 10 games he is currently on a 32 goal pace which is not too shabby.

Also Elliotte Friedman (and by extension Mike McIntyre) may be to blame for a 5 on 5 goal being scored when Dylan Samberg was on the ice as he mentioned it in his 32 Thoughts piece yesterday that the Jets Dman hadn’t been on the ice for a 5 on 5 goal against this season.
