This is probably the most important contract news of the summer for the Jets as GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was able to sign RFA defenceman Dylan Samberg to a three-year deal with an AAV of 5.75. Murat Ates of The Athletic was first to report it at 5:30 AM.
This deal came down to the wire as the two sides were set to meet with a neutral arbitrator today.

Samberg is coming off a two-year deal with a cap hit of 1.4 million. While the Minnesota product doesn’t produce eye popping offensive number he still set career highs last season for goals (6) and points (20). And his appeal is really what you get defensively.
In my opinion this was the most important contract to get done as it allows Winnipeg to secure a guy who is going to be in their top four for years to come. And from Samberg’s perspective he will be in for an even bigger payday in three years with more time spent in the Jets top four.
Before departing Winnipeg for St. Louis the Jets hit the ice for a skate.
