The Minnesota contingent on the Jets got stronger on Saturday night as the hockey club added some organizational depth with the signing of C Dominic Toninato to a one-year contract. The Duluth product was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 5th round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
Toninato played four years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before turning pro with the Colorado Avalanche organization in 2017-18. Toninato was traded from Colorado to Florida in June of 2019 and he played 46 games for the Panthers last season scoring four goals and adding seven assists.
Doninato played with Neal Pionk for two years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and being a Duluth kid you’d have to think there is some familiarity with Dylan Samberg as well.
