There has been lots of speculation about left shot defenceman Dylan Samberg of Hermantown, Minnesota over the last year. When the Jets 2017 2nd rounder chose to play a third straight college season with the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs as he chased the rare (only accomplished once before) three-peat there was some concern from Jets fans that he might not sign with the Jets.
Today the team announced that they have inked Samberg to a three-year, entry-level contract with an average annual value of $1,175,000.
The Jets stated the contract begins next season which would mean that even if the 2019-20 season resumes it would appear that Samberg would not participate. Samberg is expected to challenge for a spot with the Jets next season with the lack of left side defenceman currently under contract for the 2020-21 season.
Samberg is set to speak at 2 PM and Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will speak at 3 PM. Both will be featured on site.
