Jets Release:
The Winnipeg Jets hockey club, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, today announced that forward Patrik Laine has been named the NHL’s First Star of the Week for the week ending Feb. 19/17.
Laine, 18, tallied eight points (5G, 3A) in four games last week in leading the Jets to a 3-0-1 record. He scored the game-winning goal as part of a hat trick at home in a 5-2 win against Dallas on Feb. 14/17. He followed that with a goal in a 4-3 OTL loss on the road against Pittsburgh on Feb. 16/17 and scored once and added an assist in a 3-1 victory against Montreal at Bell Centre on Feb. 18/17. The ended his week in Ottawa by tallying two assists in a 3-2 win on Feb. 19/17.
On the season, Laine leads NHL rookies in scoring with 52 points (28G, 24A) in 54 games, which has him tied with Alexander Ovechkin for 16th in NHL scoring. Laine is the only NHL rookie to have surpassed the 50 point mark so far this season.
This is the first time in his career Laine has been selected the NHL’s First Star of the Week.
