With Andrew Copp dealing with a concussion and the Moose about to depart on a six-game road trip the Jets needed an extra forward to have in the lineup as they sat with just 12 healthy forwards in the lineup. Top scorer for the Moose this season Mason Appleton has earned his first recall to the parent club. His development in his second year has seen the Wisconsin product continue to improve in all aspects of his game. In 19 games this season he has eight goals and 10 assists.
Amazing to think when we spoke with him at the beginning of last season he was “just trying to make the team”. He began 2017-18 with the Moose on the 4th line and eventually earned the trust of coach Vincent and his play dictated that the 2015 6th rounder be moved up. He played on the top line most nights and finished his rookie season with 22 goals and 44 assists for 66 points in 76 games (and earned a whole host of AHL awards including AHL rookie of the year).
For those curious Nic Petan-Jack Roslovic-Mason Appleton played together as the Manitoba Moose top line from November 24th, 2017 to December 21, 2017 (11 games) last season. The team went 10-0-0-1 during that stretch and outscored their opponents 55-15.
