Winnipeg Jets prospect Markus Loponen heading to the Victoria Royals for upcoming season

Finnish prospect Markus Loponen was drafted by Winnipeg in the 5th round back on June 29th and less than a week later he was selected by the Victoria Royals of the WHL in the CHL Import Draft.

He had been scheduled to play in Finland this season with Karpat but as per Lassi Alanen (Director of European Scouting for Elite Prospects):

“Kärpät announces the team has terminated their contract with Markus Loponen (WPG) following a request from the player, and that Loponen will be heading to the CHL for the upcoming season.”

Interesting development as Winnipeg will now have him a little closer to Manitoba as they watch the 18-year old forward develop next season.
