Saskatoon product Brayden Yager is leaving his home province and his adopted city of Moose Jaw and heading five hours and twenty minutes west to Lethbridge, Alberta where he will be playing for the Hurricanes after today’s news that he was traded by the Warriors.
This is the second trade for the 2023 1st rounder in approximately three months as he was acquired by Winnipeg in an NHL trade with Pittsburgh back in August.
After being assigned back to junior he was named captain of Moose Jaw in early October. Of course this Warriors team is much different than last year’s club that won the WHL Championship for the first time in their history. Despite the drop off Yager continued to produce earning himself an invite to Team Canada World Junior selection camp.
On the same day he was announced as an invitee to Team Canada, Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects broke the news that he was hearing Yager was going to be dealt to Lethbridge as part of a big WHL deal.
An hour or so later it was confirmed by the WHL who tweeted out the news of the trade which involves Yager and Jackson Unger from Moose Jaw being dealt for three players and six draft picks. The Jets prospect goes from 6-15-2-1 Moose Jaw, who are 10th in the 11-team Eastern Conference, to 12-10-1-1 Lethbridge who are 7th.
As chance would have it tomorrow night Brayden Yager gets to take on his old team with his new club as Moose Jaw will be in Lethbridge for a game. Puck drop is at 9 PM CST.
