The Jets are preparing for their fourth game of this six-game home stand when they face the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night.  Today all eyes will be glued to the practice at Bell MTS Place to see if Patrik Laine somehow makes it out for the morning skate or the more likely scenario that coach Maurice provides a further update on the health of his sniper who blocked a shot in the 2nd period of the Jets OT win over the Kings on Tuesday night.

Pre-practice note:

According to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun goalie Michael Hutchinson was skating.

Practice notes:

Not much of a surprise but no Patrik Laine for today’s skate according to Scott Billeck of NHL.com.  Brian Munz of TSN 1290 Winnipeg has the lines and D pairs (listed below) without Laine and no Jack Roslovic (unexpected).

Lines:

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Stastny-Little
Perreault-Copp-Dano
Tanev-Lowry-Armia

Morrissey-Myers
Enstrom-Byfuglien
Morrow-Chiarot

Coach Maurice:  Update on Laine’s injury.  Any idea of timeline on Laine’s recovery?  Might he play the Nashville game?  Update on Jack Roslovic?  If Roslovic feels ok is he a player tomorrow?  Update on Michael Hutchinson.  Anything new with Mason or Trouba?  Where Bryan Little fits tomorrow?  How would he judge Little’s season?  Is Little the poster boy for the year (i.e. sacrificing for the greater good)?   Should guys like Patrik Laine be blocking shots?  If stuck in a no man’s land would he prefer players get out of the way?  On blocking shots being a “badge of honour”.  What are some of the other things that Kyle Connor has been doing well aside from goal scoring?  On the teams the Jets face down the stretch.  More on Laine.  Does he need to worry about Laine coming back too quickly?  This isn’t an injury that this could get worse if he rushes back?  How much in-game does he gather for use down the road?

Health Update:

The big news of the day was obviously about Jets sniper Patrik Laine.  Coach Maurice indicated “There’s nothing broken, he’s got a bruise.  When he gets his foot in a boot and feels comfortable he’ll be back playing.”  Of course the next question was how long the recovery would take and the Jets bench boss didn’t have a clear answer yet saying “As soon as when he can put the foot in a boot and skate.  Four days to 14 days is probably the range we have seen in the past.  That has nothing to do with Paddy.  We’ll see how he heals.  Early on I would say its been very good”.

Another missing forward from today’s skate was Jack Roslovic who was unexpectedly not on the ice.  “Not feeling very well this morning, flu-ish.  He’s about the seventh or eighth guy we’ve dealt with on that.  If he feels strong tonight and he feels good tomorrow morning he’ll be in and if he doesn’t he won’t”.

Goalie Michael Hutchinson skated prior to practice.  “He’s got a test in the next couple of days. He’s gotta pass it before he can start taking shots.  If he passes it then we will start having some pucks going his way.”  He also had an update on the Jets other injured goalie saying this about Steve Mason “Mason will skate in the next couple of days.  There’s not a lot of healing time that we need in terms of the injury itself.  You have to heal off the scope.  So in the next few days we’re hoping he gets back on the ice.”

Last up is Jacob Trouba who is dealing with a concussion “Has been good and pretty darn near symptom free right from day 1 so we’ll give that one a couple more days and he’ll start skating.”
