The Jets had a busy day of practice on Sunday but coach Maurice gave them the day off the ice today.  Yesterday saw Tobias Enstrom and Nikolaj Ehlers on the ice with their teammates skating in yellow non-contact jerseys although I would not anticipate getting any further updates from the Jets bench boss.  The cone of silence with respect to injuries means that unless a player is skating in a regular uniform it is safe to assume they are suffering from some sort of ‘malaise’.  Meaning they, along with the other injured players (Mason, Armia, Perreault and Kulikov), are all game-time decisions.  Of course since we don’t know when the next game is yet that probably is a good thing as it will allow the Jets sick bay some time to heal up.

Pre-availability news:

While most guys aren’t skating, according to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun injured goalie Steve Mason was on the ice with goalie coach Wade Flaherty getting in some work this morning.

Coach Maurice:  Knowing their round two opponent.  What sort of series does he anticipate between the Jets/Preds?  What did he learn about the Preds during the year and what does he think his team learned from those games?  What type of impact do the crowds have in both buildings?  On the anticipation of these two teams facing each other.  Will it be as free flowing as it was during the regular season?  Does he have any optimism that Perreault will play in this series?  Has Perreault skated?  How appropriate that either the Jets/Preds won’t be in the final four?  Does he chat with Preds coach Laviolette at all during the season?  On the schedule.  Will they be on the ice over next couple of days?  Two Vezina nominated goalies going against each other, who has the advantage?  How much healthier will they be?  Update on Steve Mason?  How surprised was he that Kyle Connor wasn’t a rookie of the year finalist?  On Kyle Connor’s overall development.  Thought on Kyle Connor’s first round.  Matchups.  On the similarities between the teams.  On the importance of the break for a physical player like Byfuglien.  On Byfuglien’s first round.

Health news:

As illustrated above there are question marks surrounding the health of a number of Jets players.  Both Tobias Enstrom and Nikolaj Ehlers skated in yellow-non contact uniforms yesterday while today saw Steve Mason working with goalie coach Wade Flaherty on the ice at IcePlex.  When coach Maurice was asked about whether he was optimistic that Mathieu Perreault might play in the 2nd round the Jets bench boss replied “I’m a very optimistic man.”  The follow up question was whether Perreault had skated and he replied “not yet”.  Still no sightings of Joel Armia and Dmitry Kulikov.
