Winnipeg Jets Playoff Practice Report

It was an emotional Tuesday night in downtown Winnipeg which saw the home side storm back to score four in the middle frame to take a lead into the final period of play and ultimately pull off the 7-4 win in game 3.  Similar to what we saw on Monday the Jets held an optional skate today with some players speaking ahead of it.  Coach Maurice will speak after skate concludes.

Practice notes:

Via Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun we learn “Joel Armia, Mathieu Perreault and Dmitry Kulikov all in regular jerseys for a well-attended optional practice. Pretty light-hearted skate, so can’t read too much into it.”.

Coach Maurice:  Did it cross his mind to make a goalie change after the 1st period?  The save that Hellebuyck made on Arvidsson in the 3rd.  How much focus does he have on getting Ehlers/Connor scoring?  On Patrik Laine’s game.  The impact Josh Morrissey is having on the playoffs.  Describing the growth of Morrissey’s game since game 1.  Does Ehlers push the pace when playing with Scheifele/Wheeler?  On lines for game 4.  On head shots.  On a quick whistle when player gets hit in the head.  On the way Dustin Byfuglien can dominate a game and whether there has been a player like him?  Does he want the energy from today to carry over to tomorrow’s game?  Status of Mathieu Perreault?  On messages to his players during a game.  Has he seen any difference in Byfuglien’s game?  How important is variation as the teams get to know each other’s patterns?

Health news:

While we shouldn’t expect health updates during the playoffs, veteran Jets forward Mathieu Perreault admitted today to being crafty with the media saying he wore a regular jersey (on Monday) even though he was still non-contact. “I had yellow in my stall but then I just put blue on…that was me messing with you guys”.

Coach Maurice added “He’s not wearing a yellow sweater so that puts him in a different spot.”
