Winnipeg Jets players react to Jacob Trouba trade request

Today is day 3 of Jets training camp and while we would normally be focused on the young prospects who have an opportunity to push for a spot, the focus this Sunday is on the news that RFA defenceman Jacob Trouba has requested a trade out of Winnipeg.

This was the first opportunity for players to speak with the media about the news and here are some reactions from the IcePlex.

Josh Morrissey while recognizing that there is an opportunity for himself didn’t want to delve too deeply into the topic other than to talk about his game.  Bryan Little wished Trouba the best of luck but did indicate that “you’ve got 60 guys here that would die to put that jersey on”.  Tyler Myers seemed surprised by the move “Maybe I am a little bit.  It’s hard to react.  It hasn’t really sunk in”.

The most disappointed voice comes from forward Mathieu Perreault “This guy plays big minutes, 22 minutes, and he’s gonna complain some sort of way about his ice time. How much more does he want?” according to Scott Billek of the Winnipeg Free Press.  According to Mitch Rosset of Global News, Perreault also indicated “I’m disappointed. I think it’s selfish of him to ask for that”.

The next group of players takes to the ice soon and there will likely be more reaction from players on the Jets.

You can watch Mathieu Perreault not hold back in his comments about the request for a trade.

The next group of players to speak were a little more diplomatic on the Trouba situation.  Players like Mark Stuart indicated they were still holding out hope that Trouba could be back while his fellow Michigan alum and roommate Andrew Copp understood the decision that Trouba made.

Jets assistant coach Jaime Kompon began his end of day 3 presser by indicating that he wouldn’t be discussing or offering up a comment on the Trouba situation.

Another day and more reaction as the World Cup of Hockey contingent took to the ice for the first time today.
