Patrik Laine sets NHL record for longest points streak by a teenager

It has been well documented that Patrik Laine is having a remarkable sophomore season for the Winnipeg Jets with 41 goals and 25 assists for a new career high with 66 points.

When the Jets and Capitals met in Winnipeg just over a month ago Oveckin (33) had eight more goals than Laine (25). When they met in Washington this past Monday the Jets young sniper had erased the deficit and the two forwards were tied with 40 goals. It is pretty clear from those of us who watch Laine this season that his skating has gotten significantly more powerful as the season has progressed.

While his goal scoring has been eye-catching he is also contributing with some pretty nice assists including one last night that helped tie the game against the Hawks in Winnipeg.

His current points streak has been significant as he has now passed Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon who had set the mark for longest points streak in the NHL by a teenager back in 2013-14 at 13 games when he had 18 points (5 goals and 13 assists).  In this stretch of 14 games for Patrik Laine he has 16 goals and 8 assists for 24 points.  How much longer will the streak go on for?  Stay tuned to find out.
