With Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrissey both not an option for the Jets tonight in a must-win game 5 the hopes are squarely based on a potential return of Nikolaj Ehlers to the Winnipeg lineup this evening.
Based on the reports coming from Vegas and specifically from Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet, the dynamic winger has looked very good in practice. But is he ready to play?
Today after morning skate from T-Mobile Arena head coach Rick Bowness was asked about number 27’s status ahead of this critical game.
“Nik Ehlers will be a game-time decision tonight.”
When asked about the reason for the hesitation for declaring Ehlers ready or not, one way or the other, the Jets bench boss said:
“He needs medical clearance and I’m not a doctor.”
Asked if he was confident that he’ll be available he responded with:
“Yes. But I’m not a doctor that’s not my final call. And again we’re not going to put a player out on the ice unless we know, we are not going to put him in a vulnerable position, so let the doctors make that call.”
And so the answer should become official during warm-up about 30 minutes before puck drop.
