Dynamic Jets winger Nikolaj Ehlers hasn’t played a game for Winnipeg since he was knocked out of a game against the Wild back on April 11th. The hit didn’t look good but the team really didn’t ring any alarm bells for him and he even made it seem like he was a possibility for game 1 against the Golden Knights a week later.
Four days after sustaining the injury Ehlers declared himself good-to-go for game 1 on April 18th and started a “media war” (tongue in cheek) with head coach Rick Bowness who insisted his winger remained day-to-day.
Of course four games have now passed and Ehlers still hasn’t played a playoff game although he has been practicing since last week in a regular uniform. Today in Vegas he was again wearing a regular uniform according to Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet.
According to Murat Ates of The Athletic Winnipeg Ehlers was practicing on the power play unit although he wouldn’t engage in the “media war” this time taking a neutral tone not giving “a definitive statement as to whether he’s in or out”.
Wieber indicated that head coach Rick Bowness declared Ehlers to be a “game-time decision”.
