Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | Mar 28, 2026

Note: The Jets held an optional practice on Friday as they looked to reset in preparation for a monumental test when they face the Avalanche this evening in Colorado as they kick off a four-game road trip. Appears there won’t be a morning skate for Winnipeg so stay tuned for the pre-game report to ensure you’re up-to-date on the latest. Puck drop is at 6 PM CT.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Colorado, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 8:40 PM CT. Join us here.

Note III: The Moose slide continues as they dropped their fourth straight game last night losing 5-0 to the Senators in Belleville. They were significantly shorthanded and won’t have any time to rest as they have a re-match this evening. Puck drop is at 6 PM CT.

Note IV: The kids are in the playoffs already. In the OHL only Kieron Walton (2024 6th) was able to get on the board and boy did he ever with the OT GWG for the Petes to even their series at 1-1. While not showing up on the scoresheet, Edison Engle (2025 6th) and Brantford won while Jacob Cloutier (2025 7th) and Saginaw lost. In the WHL, it was Manitoban Owen Martin (2025 3rd) and Spokane looked like they were rolling as he scored his first of the playoffs but they ultimately lost to Prince George in game 1. Lastly, in the NCAA neither Garrett Brown (2022 4th) or Zach Nehring (2023 3rd) were on the scoresheet for Denver or Western Michigan but with both their clubs winning these two will face off on Sunday in the regional final.

Note V: Join us today at 9 AM on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show for two hours of hockey talk as we get you set for the Jets and Avalanche game. We will be joined by TSN play-by-play voice Dan Robertson and Meghan Angley who covers the Avs. Come be part of the discussion here.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Are tough-guy tactics a new reality for the Winnipeg Jets? It is likely an area they’ll have to address in some capacity next season as you don’t want Adam Lowry to have to be the only player who can keep things honest.

Winnipeg Sun: Ten tough games await the Jets, the Avs up first. The strength of schedule is what will ultimately be the determining factor down the stretch.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets have 10 games left to climb into wild-card berth. (Paywall). While it’s not quite reached the “it’s over Rock” point, it is very, very close. Having said that the rest of the teams around the Jets are also ripe for failing.

Global News: Jets no longer a legit contender in the NHL Central. The lack of a second line centre continues to haunt this organization as it has since they finally found one in Paul Stastny.
