Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | Jan 23, 2026

Note: The Jets fought back in a game that was mostly a snoozefest last night to tie things up with the defending two-time Stanley Cup champion Panthers last night but were not able to secure an extra point as they lost the game in a shootout by a final score of 2-1. Today, they will hold an optional practice at 12 noon so stay tuned for the Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose had another day of practice on Thursday as they prepared for tonight’s game against the AHL leading Griffins. To give you a sense of how things are going for Grand Rapids they have 11 more wins than Manitoba and the Moose have the second most in the Central. Until about two weeks ago the visitors only had one regulation loss although they’ve actually dropped three of their last four games (one of which was lost in OT). Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note III: In the OHL a pair of Jets prospects did battle as Jacob Cloutier (2025 7th) had a goal (his third straight game with a goal, seven game points streak) in the Saginaw win against Kieron Walton (2024 6th) who was limited to an assist, he did fire off 10 shots in the game and he remains tied for 2nd overall in points race.

Winnipeg Sun: Perfetti helps Jets rescue a point against the Panthers. Think we’ve seen that 19 to 91 connection before.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets fall in shootout to Panthers. (Paywall). Like many things when comparing this team to last year’s it is quite remarkable how woeful they’ve become with games that go beyond 60 minutes.

Winnipeg Free Press: Returning to the ’Peg always special for Maurice. (Paywall). No surprise he was waxing poetic about his time in Manitoba. He still has family connections to the city.

Winnipeg Free Press: Selling, buying or standing pat all intriguing options for the Jets. (Paywall). Mike delves into where things stand with the NHL club of Winnipeg.

NHL.com: Tarasov helps Panthers edge Jets in shootout. Darrin takes you into both rooms with this recap.

Global News: Jets fall to Panthers 2-1 in a shootout. Russ provides you with his assessment of the game.

TSN: Panthers vs. Jets ‘was just an absolute chess match’. It’s not often a game with just two goals scored can be considered thrilling, but Kevin Sawyer joins Dan Robertson to explain why Winnipeg’s shootout loss to the Panthers was just that and such a fun ‘chess match’ to watch.
