Jets news:
CBC: 30 Thoughts. Just one mention (point #16) of Winnipeg and simply to point out what impact a coaching change could have on other losing teams.
Winnipeg Free Press: ‘Why not us?’ Yes indeed. Taking a glass half full approach the Jets have not been eliminated from post season contention so there is no reason why they shouldn’t still be considering the playoffs. It is going to be a monumental task but it certainly isn’t impossible.
Winnipeg Free Press: Thorlander words. Chris Thorburn…model? Apparently the rugged winger doesn’t have a problem showing us his best Zoolander pose.
Winnipeg Sun: Wheeler Jets’ go-to guy. He has been sensational for the Jets and he is using all his attributes to the benefit of the team.
Winnipeg Sun: Ken’s Notebook. Ken opens up his notes to give you his insight into the Jets improbable win over the Hawks and other thoughts. Hope you set aside some time because this is a long read but well worth it to be brought up to speed on this team.
NHL.com: Five Questions – Jets’ Maurice finds immediate success. Dan Rosen turns to the Jets new coach and asks him five questions including; 1). What has been your biggest adjustment with this team? 2). How has that hectic schedule and lack of practice time affected the implementation of your systems and coaching vocabulary? 3). You get outshot 27-6 through two periods in Chicago yet you still come away with a 3-1 win. What did you learn about your team Sunday? 4). Is Dustin Byfuglien a forward or a defenseman, and do you think it has to be defined for him? and 5). What have you seen from your two young players, Jacob Trouba and Mark Scheifele, and how have you gotten to know their games so far?
Sportsnet: Hockey Central at Noon (video). The guys discuss the impact made by coach Paul Maurice and then the talk turns to potential moves to be made by GM Kevin Cheveldayoff.
Sportsnet: HC Trade Tracker: Andrew Ladd (video). I think there is zero chance the Jets are trading the captain away but here are Brian Lawton and Nick Kypreos speculating about same.
Predators news:
The Tennessean: Predators free agents proving more fizzle than sizzle. A look at some of the moves the team made and how they have worked (or in some cases) haven’t worked for the team.
Winnipeg Free Press: Trotz knows all about challenges. Manitoba native Barry Trotz gives some insight into the current and former Jets bench boss.
Winnipeg Free Press: He’s growing by the minutes. The Preds scored when this young prospect fell to fourth in the draft and you can bet they will do whatever it takes to ensure Jones develops properly.
