Note: Tune into the Illegal Curve Hockey Show today on TSN 1290 Winnipeg from noon until 3 pm. I will be joining Ezra and special guest host Matt Leibl. We have an action packed show including a look back at last night’s Jets/Wild game, the upcoming Jets trip to Colorado and all the rest of the news from across the NHL. Guests: Jonas Siegel (TSN 1050), Drew Spevak (ESPN Denver) and Adam Kimelman (NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor).
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Wild night in Winnipeg. If you predicted that these two teams would combine to score ten goals combined and seven in the first five minutes of the game, then I suggest you go and buy a lotto ticket. It is also fair to say that the rivalry is very much on as there was a ton of post-whistle scuffles and chatter.
Winnipeg Free Press: Montoya stops 22 of 23 shots in cleanup. He has done everything a backup can be asked to do. When I asked him last night if he felt he deserved an assist on Enstrom’s empty netter he tongue in cheek said “Oh ya it was a planned pad pass”.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets tame Wild 6-4 in crucial win. Every win, especially a clean two points against a division rival, is absolutely critical for this team. Captain Ladd didn’t sugar coat things following the victory acknowledging that they cannot lay a stinker against the Avalanche on Sunday.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets Snapshots – Loose teams, must-see video & sick bay blues. Paul looks at a number of items from the game including how to solve boring hockey, Jets a tonic for challenged teams, Pavelec’s stick shattering, getting some hits, sick bay and a heroic Harding.
Winnipeg Sun: Noel won’t throw Pavelec under bus for Jets’ woes. There were certainly some defensive lapses last night but Pavelec has to share some of the burden. If he wants to be an elite goalie than he needs to show that, even when his team is snoozing. Having said that when you watch the highlights again you see that there were clearly some big defensive mistakes made last night.
TSN: Jets beat Wild after seven goal first period. Dennis breaks down the game from his birds eye view up in the press box.
Winnipeg Sun: Pavelec says Yakupov delivered ‘cheap shot’. If you missed it the Jets goalie was not too impressed with the young Russian forward as it was still being discussed Friday after practice.
Jets 6 Wild 4:
Winnipeg Jets: Evander Kane, Andrew Ladd, Al Montoya and Blake Wheeler.
Minnesota Wild: Coach Yeo, Jason Pominville and Ryan Suter.
Coach Noel post-game. Coach Noel met with the media following the game against Minnesota.
Jets on a Deadline: Game recaps, post-game audio, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.
IceCaps news:
TSN: Sateri stops 34 shots as the Sharks down the IceCaps. Not a great way to start after a long Christmas break for the Jets farm club.
