Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers (Thursday, Oct 6th)

Winnipeg Free Press:  Local product Bodie cut loose.  It is too bad the Portage La Prairie product won’t be playing for the team but his level of play should attract interest from another team (AHL or NHL).

Winnipeg Free Press:  Watch Jets home opener at The Forks.  If I wasn’t attending the game on Sunday, this is where I would be.  While you might not be able to hear every call (I will be PVRing game anyways so I can re-watch multiple times), to be able to watch the game with 1000’s of my fellow Manitobans would be an experience like no other.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Rowing on Red River intended to help Jets squad with bonding.  The only cause for concern was when they almost lost 1 of the boats carrying 4 players to an almost-tipping.

Atlanta Journal Constitution:  Jets trying not to repeat Atlanta’s mistakes.  Interesting stat for those who think the Jets could make the post-season this year:

Dating back to the Atlanta Flames move to Calgary in 1980, the last six NHL franchises to relocate averaged an 11-point improvement in their first year in a new setting.

Globe and Mail:  Reborn Jets trade sticks for oars in search of team’s identity.  Team’s are forced to develop chemistry as they interact with new members of the squad and it appears Coach Noel figured out a totally new way to go about helping to develop same.

Winnipeg Sun:  Dapper Dons hoping to catch Cherry’s eye.  Even if they don’t make it onto Coach’s Corner, these Winnipeg good guys deserve some recognition for their philanthropy.

CBC:  Jets’ Antropov happy to be playing in Canada.  The Jets are going to be leaning on a healthy Antropov this season as they search for scoring in any place they can find it.

USA Today:  Keep a close eye on these NHL rookies.  Looks like our city’s new favoured son made this list.
