Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers (Tuesday, Oct 4th)

Winnipeg Free Press:  Signed, sealed…up to Scheifele to deliver.  If the Jets 1st round draft pick manages to stick with the club for the entire season, and if he thrives this year, the Jets are going to have to thank #10 Dale Hawerchuk for the biggest assist of his post-hockey career.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Noel says top pick here for long run.  If Scheifele does stick with the club, let us hope this isn’t short term gain and doesn’t stunt his long term development.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets will try to block out home opener.  I disagree with Blake Wheeler.  This isn’t just any other home game.  This is going to be the craziest thing most of these players have ever seen.  For fans, whether you are at the MTS Centre or watching with family/friends on TV, be prepared for a spectacle.

Winnipeg Free Press:  More cuts needed to reach 23 maximum.  Nail biting time for the bubble players as they begin to learn their fate.

Globe and Mail:  Hockey’s in Manitoba’s blood.  Once again, Roy MacGregor, provides an interesting read on the Jets return and the importance of hockey in our Province.

Winnipeg Sun:  Scheifele making his mark with Jets.  He has shown a dedication to being here when the season starts that not many expected.

CBC:  Bettman chats with HNIC Radio about Shanahan, Jets return.  It was to our benefit that the Thrashers moved rather quickly to Winnipeg, but I’m not sure Atlanta fans would buy this line in response to a question about franchise health:

“But the fact of the matter is we’re going to try and make things work where we currently have our franchises because we owe that to our fans everywhere to let our fans know that we will stick by you for as long as possible.”

Winnipeg Sun:  Meech earns spot with Jets.  I thought the hometown product has had a pretty decent camp so I’m not surprised that he will be sticking around with the Jets as the season gets underway.
