Note: All this month we wanted to bring to your attention the Pass it Forward program which provides help to youth in Winnipeg who wish to play hockey but require aid in getting the necessary equipment. The program is in it’s 5th year, they have a website, an active twitter feed @PassItForwardca, and they are giving away a autographed game used stick. Be sure to check it out.

Note II:  A reminder that the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN Radio 1290 is back to our regular hours.  This means the show will broadcast from noon to 3 pm on Saturday.  GuestsScott Powers (ESPN Chicago).  George Johnson (Calgary Herald).

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Chevy hopes change is progressThis is clearly Chevy’s team now as he signed some free agents and re-signed existing players to long term contracts.  As well he allowed a number of players to walk (Antropov, Hainsey, Wellwood) so this team can officially be designated as a Chevy roster, as opposed to an Atlanta holdover.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Playing with sense of urgencyThis team has quite a bit of prospect depth which will increase the competition between players and hopefully provide the team with some clear cut standouts, to add to the rosterThey will get a better idea as they evaluate the prospects during the three games they play in B.C.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Scheifele eager to earn place in Jets rosterHe is certainly putting a ton of pressure on himself to crack the Jets lineup this season.  While that isn’t a bad attitude to take you worry about how he would handle being sent to the AHL if he maintains an all or nothing mindset. Of course we would probably be equally worried if he seemed ambivalent about cracking the Jets roster.

Winnipeg Sun:  Prospects prepare for Young StarsThe prospects are in B.C. for the Young Stars Tournament which will see the young guns on Winnipeg go up against the Sharks, Canucks, Oilers and Flames.  The Jets first game is today against the Sharks at 6 pm cst.  They then play the Oilers on Saturday at 9:30 pm cst and the Canucks on Sunday at 2 pm cst.

Winnipeg Sun:   It’s a long road back from concussion for Winnipeg Jets prospect Ivan TeleginHe has been a prospect many have waited years to see and it appears he is finally healthy and ready to show what he’s got.

Winnipeg Sun:  Evander Kane won’t let unpaid traffic tickets bring him downI don’t really care that he didn’t pay his tickets any more than I wouldn’t care if one of our readers didn’t pay their tickets.  I trust in the system to ensure the payment of any fines.  What I do care about is how this has somehow become an opportunity for people outside our city to bash Winnipeg.  Ironic how the actions of a couple of non-sports reporters, who in the course of doing their jobs, discovered that a member of the Jets owed the city money.  This apparently now allows people to cast aspersions upon our city and paint everyone here with the same brush.

CBC:  Team beefs up with sizeable playersThis hasn’t occurred as a result of happenstance, as GM Cheveldayoff has said numerous times his intention was to get his team bigger, to handle the rigors of the Western Conference.

NHL news:

Globe and Mail:  Burke and the Flames an interesting marriageHappy to see Burke back in the game and hopefully he can help the Flames right the ship.
