Winnipeg Sun:  Jets snap Anthony Peluso off waivers.  A little background on the Jets newest addition.  If he indeed ends up playing with Slater and Thorburn we could potentially have another tax related line.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Antropov back on the ice.  Jets gained Antropov who following practice said he was fine but lost captain Ladd who was not on the ice, although according to coach Noel that was for personal reasons.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Giddy with excitement.  The mood is infectious at the MTS Centre right now.  Whether you are a player, coach or even media the anticipation for the home opener has everyone feeling excited.

Winnipeg Free Press:  ‘Spoiled’ NHLers learned to ride bus again during lockout.  Both Wheeler and Stuart had the pleasure of going back to their roots of riding the bus, similar to what many younger players did growing up.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Fans drop gloves, Jets drop fees.  Again we see the impact of social media.  When word of the new system spread along with the new fees for next season, fans reacted and not with a ‘True North’ chant.  The Jets saw this and responded accordingly.

Winnipeg Sun:  Antti Miettinen lost indefinitely.  The injury will create some intrigue as Scheifele now moves up to play with Burmistrov and Ponikarovsky.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jim Slater responds to challenge.  He is a veteran leader on this team who knows his role and isn’t afraid to fulfill it.  Whether that is winning face offs, scoring goals or mixing it up, Slater will contribute in any way he can to help this team win hockey games.

Winnipeg Sun:  Olli Jokinen happy with potential linemates Kane and Wellwood.  With Wellwood feeding these guys the pucks, this line has the potential to score a lot of goals.

Winnipeg Sun:  Noel won’t overwork Pavelec.  From the sounds of it, Al Montoya is ready and willing to play as many games as he is needed to in this shortened season.  Managing rest for these tenders who are going to be in for a very difficult season will be critical for the Jets bench boss.

Illegal Curve:  Coach Noel Press conference.  Update on Miettinen (upper body injury).  Type of practice tomorrow.  Antropov status.  Getting team to play ‘A’ games.  Taking penalty phase.  Looking forward to day he can have a regular training camp.  Pressure of the 1st game.  Additions to the roster.  Slater’s versatility and reliability.  IceCaps players on team.  Addition of John Phelan to the Jets as a mental skills coach.

Illegal Curve:  Season Ticket fees waived.  Jim Ludlow, President & CEO of True North held a press conference today to discuss the waiving of fees.  He also covered the newest additions to the MTS Centre.

St. John’s IceCaps official site:  The Rock Report – IceCaps earn split with Marlies.  Club thrills fans in snapping home losing skid; six-game road trip begins this weekend in Norfolk.

Swift Current Broncos official site:  Adam Lowry scores 2 in 4-3 OT win.  Including a short handed goal to extend his points streak to 21 games.  In those 21 games he has 21 goals and 16 assists.  He currently sits 4th overall in WHL scoring.

NHL news:

Delaware County Times:  Claude Giroux takes helm for Flyers.  Named the 19th captain in the history of the franchise Giroux is expected to take this Flyers team back to the Stanley Cup finals.

Detroit Free Press:  Zetterberg with ‘Z’ now Zetterberg with ‘C’ as Red Wings name him new captain.  From Swedish captain to another Swedish captain, after the retirement of Nicklas Lidstrom it is Henrik Zetterberg who will lead this team into the future.

Globe and Mail:  Making a Stanley Cup case for the Bruins, Kings and Avalanche.  So many theories as to who is going to win and why.  Based on injuries or someone heating up unexpectedly, it seems way too soon to already be predicting the Cup champs.  As it currently stands only the Kings are in the top 5 with decent Vegas odds (9/1) to win the cup.

CBC:  Don Cherry talks draft picks (video).  The CBC’s Colleen Jones talks to Coach Corner’s Don Cherry about the pressure.

CBC:  NHL, union change buyout rules.  A much fairer decision which won’t handicap the players from playing in the NHL this year, if any teams are willing to sign them.
