Jets & Affiliate news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets happy to have Mark Chipman involved in talks.  It is clear his players respect him as an owner and perhaps this is the type of respect that can help make the atmosphere more cordial during talks.

Winnipeg Sun:  Mark Scheifele the only Jets prospect invited to World Junior camp.  The Jets #1 pick in 2011 has been ripping up the OHL this year and was a no brainer invite for Team Canada.  Some thought Adam Lowry of Swift Current might be invited for try outs but Scheifele is only Jets prospect getting the chance to possibly shine on the World stage.

TSN:  NHL owners and players to meet on Tuesday in New YorkOne of those present will be the Winnipeg Jets Mark Chipman, who will likely bring a level headed approach to these negotiations which appears to be missingThe other 5 owners who will be taking part in the talks are Larry Tanenbaum (Toronto Maple Leafs), Ron Burkle (Pittsburgh Penguins), Jeff Vinik (Tampa Bay Lightning),  Murray Edwards (Calgary Flames) and Jeremy Jacobs (Boston Bruins).

The Telegram:  IceCaps not out of the woods yetWhen putting their win streak up against one of the better AHL teams, the Caps’ saw that they still have some work to do to get this season turned back around.

CBA news:

Montreal Gazette:  Time for fans to mobile-izeQuite the leap to paralleling the Arab Spring with attempts for fans to show their disdain for the present NHL regime as Todd seems to ascribe it.  I still don’t see the point.  Call it apathy or being pragmatic, but the fans of NHL hockey will inevitably return to the sport whenever it decides to make its return.

Toronto Star:  Back to a Dark FutureCreating this level of distrust is short-sighted as neither the players or owners are particularly enamored with the other side right now.  Levels of resentment are at unprecedented levels and are blinding both the players and owners from making any compromises right now.

Edmonton Journal:  Will 2012 be Gary Bettman’s last stand as commissionerPerhaps or perhaps not but it seems like a waste of energy speculating as to whether or not the commissioner will still be in his present role at this time next year.  There can be no doubt that Gary Bettman is more than simply a pawn of ownership and he is likely well aware of the temperature of the room when his 29 bosses get together and has adjusted his strategy accordingly.  It would be the height of hubris to think that he cares not one whit about the positions of his employers.

Calgary Herald:  Fans going through the five stages of grievingAre these feelings just in cow-town or have they spread to the 29 other NHL cities?

NHL news:

Edmonton Journal:  Canada’s world junior team always dominates during NHL lockoutsOne positive of the lockout is Canadian teams are almost unbeatable when they amass a firepower that is difficult to match.

Toronto Sun:  Crown to argue more jail time for pedophile Graham JamesThe book continues to be thrown at James.
