Note: During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives. If you’d like to help the Illegal Curve team as we raise money ($3,959.00 as of this AM) and awareness you are welcome to do so; Dave, Ezra, Drew, #5 Mark Stuart and #44 Zach Bogosian.
Jets news:
Illegal Curve: Lockout audio. Spoke with Andrew Ladd and Blues Ryan Reaves. Ladd has quite a bit to say about Hamrlik as well as decertification.
NHL.com: NHL cancels games through December 14th. Rumour became reality as what was expected to happen did happen and the NHL cancelled all the games below (except the Penguins game). As well the All-Star game in Columbus was cancelled.
CBA news:
Columbus Dispatch: Black Friday – NHL Cancels Columbus’ All-Star Weekend. As expected the league cancelled more games, including the All-Star game, which deals a blow to the Blue Jackets renewal in Columbus.
Toronto Star: Don Cherry to players – smarten up. Gotta love Cherry. He is bang on, the personal attacks by players on Bettman are completely counter-productive and do nothing to align players with fans against owners, which appears to be the intent. Also love how he gets in the Kadri plug.
Montreal Gazette: Habs’ owner Molson optimistic about season. A great interview with the owner of the Canadiens.
Globe and Mail: Exasperated Ryan Miller heartily endorses decertification of union. Always seen as a bit more cerebral, the Sabres goalie lets it all out in this letter to the Globe and Mail.
Toronto Star: Cracks appear in players’ armour after Hamrlik comments. As I said yesterday it is not shocking that a 38 year old player like Hamrlik, who was slated to make 3.5 million this season, made the comments he did.
Los Angeles Times: NHL follows NBA only so far. Will the NHL be able to come to a resolution like the NBA did to save the season? Remains to be seen.
TSN: Three CBA-related issues to be talked about soon. With regards to issue 1, it could mean another 2 weeks of games, which for Jets fans would see 7 games cancelled (assuming NHL cancels games until December 15th when Winnipeg would have played Pittsburgh at MTS Centre).
NHL news:
CBC: Hamilton Bulldog Blake Geoffrion thanks fans after serious injury. While this could have turned out much worse, Geoffrion was quite lucky and had the benefit of excellent medical staff.
CFL news:
Illegal Procedure: CFL Playoff Papers. The 100th Grey Cup will feature the Calgary Stampeders heading east to play the hometown Toronto Argonauts. We have all the latest news from both the Calgary and Toronto perspective.
