Note: The Jets began the five-game road trip on the wrong skate suffering a 4-3 loss to the Capitals in Washington to kick things off. Things don’t get any easier for them as they head to Carolina where they will face the Hurricanes on Friday in the late afternoon. Today, they will hold an optional practice in Raleigh at 12:15 CST so be sure to check back for the Practice Report.

Note II: Unlike the NHL club of Winnipeg the AHL team of Manitoba is thriving right now. After a minor stumble on Tuesday morning which saw their six-game win streak come to an end they earned themselves a split on Wednesday night with a big 5-1 victory. It took a big effort from goalie prospect Domenic DiVincentiis making 11 stops on the 11 shots he faced (with his team only getting three in the 1st) before the home team blew things open in the middle frame. Four goals (Shaw, JAD, Lambert & Fagemo) while holding a 21-4 shot edge. They got another one from Fagemo in the 3rd. They are off today.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: ‘It sucks right now’: Jets’ slide continues against Ovechkin, Caps. The Jets are definitely ‘in one’ right now enduring a slide that has now seen them lose seven of their last ten games.

Winnipeg Free Press: Lack of depth sinks Jets. (Paywall). The Jets need more than one line to score in games. It’s really not a difficult concept. And they need to clean up defensive errors because mistakes are becoming goals more often this season.

Winnipeg Free Press: Journeyman defenceman Miller grateful for every opportunity on the ice. (Paywall). Mike caught up with Colin Miller to check in one the infrequently played right side defender.

Global News: Ovechkin scores 908th goal as Capitals down Winnipeg Jets 4-3. I half expected them to stop the game and hold a ceremony for his 908th (said with tongue planted firmly in cheek).
