Note: How a 2-1 game after 40 ended up as a 5-4 final is anyone’s guess but the Jets and Stars in the season opener did not really resemble the two teams that met in the second round of the playoffs last season. It was a sloppy game by both clubs. Despite a hat trick from Kyle Connor the Jets couldn’t close the four goal gap, ultimately losing by one. They are scheduled to practice today at 12 noon so stay tuned for the Practice Report. We will also keep our eyes peeled for the news regarding David Gustafsson who was placed on waivers yesterday to see if he clears today or gets claimed by another team.

Note II: From one season opener to another except tonight it will be the AHL club of Manitoba who welcome the Rocket from Laval to Winnipeg to kick off the Moose season. They are fresh off naming Mason Shaw captain on Thursday. Morning skate is at 10:30 AM and puck drop is at 7 PM CDT.

It tells us five things including: 1) The Jets can retain top-end talent — in part because they adapt. 2) Winnipeg’s signings come with a tax. 3) The Jets are still a win-now team. 4) The 2026-27 Jets will have cap space to keep building. 5) There is long-term risk, even with a rising cap.
