Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note: It is finally here. The NHL Draft which kicks off the best weekend of the NHL season starting at 6 PM CDT. Winnipeg is scheduled to select 28th overall. We spoke with TSN’s Craig Button on the IC Hockey Show about a number of names they could be calling on this evening. Note II: Yesterday, we heard from Jets GM chats as he discussed a multitude of subjects including the decentralized Draft, preparing for the Draft, changes in the CBA, Ehlers, prospect health updates, the addition of Jonathan Toews as well as an update on Adam Lowry. Note III: The big news on Thursday, which wasn’t really a huge surprise but notable nonetheless, is that Nikolaj Ehlers has informed the Jets he will test the free agent market on July 1st.

Note IV: We also found out yesterday that instead of heading west the Jets prospects will be going out east in mid September as they trade the Young Stars Classic for the Prospects Showdown.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets GM Cheveldayoff gears up for the NHL draft. It’s gonna be a different sort of feeling this year as the broadcasts won’t be panning to team tables with the Draft being decentralized. Going to be fascinating to watch it this year and see the way it differs. We heard from Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff about how his group are adjusting to it. 

Winnipeg Sun: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff talks Jonathan Toews. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the Jets leadership group was quick to embrace the three-time Stanley Cup champion.

Global News: Jets to make selections from boardroom for new decentralized NHL Draft. He won’t have to put his hand over his mouth anymore when talking to his scouts to prevent the cameras from picking up what they are discussing. Just one of many changes with this new format.
