Note: The Jets undefeated streak finally came to an end as they had a disaster of a 1st period which was followed up by a slow start to the middle which quickly saw them down 4-0. While they were able to claw back within one thanks to instances when they had an extra attacker it just wasn’t enough as the Leafs won the game 6-4 leaving Winnipeg with an 8-1-0 record. The team cancelled practice today and will instead head directly out to Michigan where they will take on the Wings tomorrow night.
Note II: The Moose earned themselves a split on the weekend and were off on Monday. They return to the ice today as they prepare for an upcoming weekend set in Manitoba against Grand Rapids. Check back for the Practice Report.
Jets news:
Sportsnet: Jets suffer first loss of season but line juggling nearly leads to comeback. Jacob covers what happened in last night’s game.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets unbeaten run ends at hands of Maple Leafs. In a game where the Jets PK was perfect, the PP was good too, they scored twice at 6 on 5 you’d think we’ve be talking about a ninth straight victory. But not when the 5 on 5 play is where it was.
Toronto Sun: Pacioretty, Tavares lead retooled Maple Leafs to big win over Jets. Check out a recap of the game from a writer that covers the Jets opponent.
Winnipeg Free Press: Slow start dooms Jets. (Paywall). Spotting your opponent a four goal advantage is less than ideal. And while you can credit the Jets for clawing back within one it just isn’t a recipe for success. Especially since their 5 on 5 play was not good.
Winnipeg Free Press: NHL embraces streaming. (Paywall). While I’m all for streaming (which is clear given the format of the Illegal Curve programs on our YouTube channel) I don’t think I like the idea of limiting your audience. For the folks who say “but everyone has Prime” the reality is no they don’t. I don’t but I have the benefit of being in the pressbox. My 97 year old grandfather doesn’t. Plenty of folks don’t. I’d love to know the streaming numbers for Manitoba vs the usual audience on a TSN or Sportsnet game.
Global News: Winnipeg Jets’ season-opening win streak ends with 6-4 loss to Toronto. All good things must come to an end. Now it’s on the Jets to clean up some things so they don’t go the opposite way.
