Note: The Jets skated on Saturday afternoon as they prepared for the next game in this four-game homestand which is tonight against the Wild. There were no changes to the lineup which isn’t a surprise given they are 2-0 to start the campaign.
Note II: Today the Jets welcome the Wild to town with a date against their division rival. This morning they have an optional skate booked at Canada Life Centre and all the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 5 PM CT.
Note III: While it wasn’t the prettiest of wins a win is a win and the Moose put their first two points of the season in the victory bank taking it 6-4 over the Wild in the season opener last night. They got goals from Ben King who got the opening goal of the season (here), Dominic Toninato (here), Elias Salomonsson‘s first AHL goal (here), Parker Ford‘s shorthanded goal (here), Simon Lundmark‘s game-winning goal (here) and ended with Nikita Chibrikov‘s empty netter (here). Today they have a re-match with the Wild with puck drop coming at 3 PM CDT in Des Moines.
Note IV: Jets prospects in action last night saw Kevin He (2024 4th) pick up an assist in Niagara’s 7-5 win over North Bay which gives him 15 points (7G 8A) in 6 OHL games. While over in the WHL, Markus Loponen (2024 5th) also had an assist in Victoria’s 6-3 win to give himself 1G 2A for 3 points in 6 games.
Note V: For one day only we’ve moved the Illegal Curve Hockey Show from Saturday to Sunday which means starting at 9 AM CT you can join us for two hours of hockey talk as we reflect on all things Jets and Moose. Come be part of the discussion.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: How Mark Scheifele rose to the occasion, twice, to win a game for Jets. We often in today’s age move out focus on quickly to the next thing. But Scott took a pause to reflect on what happened Friday night when 55 took over.
Winnipeg Free Press: Pionk’s bold move pays big dividends for Jets. (Paywall). Wieber wrote about the decision made by Neal Pionk which likely prevented the game from being over and instead gave Winnipeg a chance to be in a position to still tie the game. He also wrote about Eric Comrie claiming the backup role.
The Athletic Winnipeg: How Eric Comrie returned to Winnipeg and reclaimed Jets’ backup goalie job. (Paywall). There was a lot working in his favour but it came down to hard work which is how most folks get ahead.
