Note: Training camp is around the corner and the Jets still have Cole Perfetti left to sign. Although given the report last week that seems like a formality at this point. The 2020 first rounder is in Vegas to represent Winnipeg at the NHL Media Tour.
Note II: The Young Stars tournament in BC gets underway for the Jets on Friday. Check out the full roster here.
Note III: Be sure to check back here and on our YouTube page as we resume interviews with Jets players this week. We will chat with the Winnipeg prospects today before they head to BC for the Young Stars tournament and NHL guys again on Thursday. If you missed it we spoke with Ville Heinola (here) and Mark Scheifele (here) on Tuesday.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Scheifele not worried about Perfetti, excited for youth injection. It was interesting to hear his talking about prospects because one thing that seems evident is that guys on the big club aren’t always aware of what’s doing organizationally. He was up-to-date on Moose guys, a player from overseas and of course the player they recently acquired.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Heinola has same attitude ahead of training camp. It was impressive to hear from him that he said he has the same mindset when guys like Brenden Dillon and Nate Schmidt were here last summer; that he needed to take someone’s job (which he did).
Winnipeg Free Press: Ville Heinola focused on claiming spot on Jets blue line. (Paywall). Given he is no longer waiver exempt he has his best shot to make this Jets team.
Winnipeg Free Press: The boys are back in town. (Paywall). On Tuesday it was a pretty full house with most of the Jets back on the ice at hockey for all centre getting set for training camp next week. Mike brings you up-to-speed.
NHL.com: Neal Pionk bringing fresh perspective into training camp. He is going to have a lot of responsibility this season as he likely gets paired up with fellow Minnesotan Dylan Samberg on the second pair.
Sportsnet: One player who has to deliver for each team in NHL’s Central Division. Interesting that Cole Perfetti was picked although it seems pretty clear that Winnipeg won’t be playing the 2020 first rounder up the middle.
Jets video:
TSN: Mark Scheifele embracing role of mentor. As the Jets’ longest tenured player, Mark Scheifele’s importance to the team goes far beyond being the No. 1 centre. TSN Jets reporter John Lu has more on how Scheifele is growing into his role as a mentor.
