Note: As September rolls around and all this month we wanted to bring to your attention the Pass it Forward program which provides help to youth in Winnipeg who wish to play hockey but require aid in getting the necessary equipment. The program is in it’s 4th year, they have a brand new website, an active twitter feed @PassItForwardca, and they are giving away a team-signed picture of last season’s opening faceoff. Be sure to check it out.
Note II: Tune into the Illegal Curve Hockey Show tomorrow from noon to 3 pm as the guys have 3 hours of hockey talk on TSN Radio 1290. Guests include: Richard Stursberg, former head of CBC English Television (We will be discussing with him his experiences in negotiating with Gary Bettman, as he negotiated the most recent HNIC contract for the CBC). Sean Gordon, Globe and Mail.
Jets news:
Dynamo Minsk official site: Tentative deal reached with Evander Kane. Looks like Kane will be joining former Jet Tim Stapleton in Minsk.
Winnipeg Sun: Up close with Big Buff. As Ken says the somewhat reserved Big Buff wasn’t the easiest to interview last season but it appears that perhaps it was a settings issue.
Winnipeg Sun: Byfuglien wants to be in Norris discussion. The biggest discussion Jets fans had about his defensive play was whether or not he should be playing forward. However it is clear that the Jets blueliner prefers to play D and despite some missteps, gives the Jets some much needed size and strength on the back end.
Winnipeg Sun: Buff made immediate impact. That hit set a tone for the evening. It took a crowd already at the height of ecstasy and somehow elevated the emotions even higher.
Winnipeg Sun: Byfuglien says trial was ‘pain in the ass’. Buff talks about speculation about his weight to the trial to his knee in this wide ranging interview.
Illegal Curve: Remaining pre-season games cancelled. Say goodbye to the October 4th Jets game against the Wild and the October 6th game against the Senators.
CBA news:
New York Daily News: NHL should learn from recent NFL referee lockout. If only there was a way for fans to truly impact these negotiations.
Globe and Mail: Little need for collusion in today’s NHL. There is little reason for trust on either side.
TSN: Talks to resume with three days of meetings. Well isn’t that nice of the NHL and NHLPA. It has been almost two weeks since the lockout began and neither side has done anything meaningful.
NHL news:
The Hockey News: Future of Coyotes uncertain as ever. Makes you wonder what Shane Doan was told back on September 14th to convince him otherwise.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Davidson agrees to buyout with Blues. The writing was on the wall for this move when the new ownership group took over. Wonder when we will be hearing that familiar “oh baby” again?
CFL Report:
Illegal Procedure: Winnipeg Blue Bombers Papers. If you are a fan of CFL football, check out our other site, which gives you all the latest Bombers news. The Argos are coming to town for Saturday’s contest and the Bombers are ready to start a win streak.
Illegal Procedure: Brandon man scores big with Blue Bombers Scratch Lottery. Big win for a $5 scratch ticket.
Guests: Scott Billeck at 28:12 and Stephan Whyno at 1:26:55.
