Note: Today marks the three week point since Scott Arniel’s introduction as Jets head coach and still no associate or assistant named to his bench. For those hopeful that current Hershey Bears head coach Todd Nelson is in line for the associate position, his hockey club is currently tied 1-1 in the AHL Calder Cup Final which heads to Coachella for game 3 on Tuesday night.

Update: On the latest edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast Elliotte Friedman indicated former Leafs assistant coach Dean Chynoweth could end up on Scott Arniel’s Winnipeg Jets bench

Update II: When it rains it pours it would seem as Darren Dreger confirmed the above hire and added that the Jets have also hired former Senators assistant coach Davis Payne.

Jets news:

Global News: Jets GM has his work cut out for him on the free agency front. The problem for Winnipeg is that it is Winnipeg and that’s not me being a self-hating Winnipegger. Just someone who is realistic and knows that Manitoba isn’t top spot for free agents. Which is why folks are a tad surprised that some of the team’s UFAs haven’t yet been signed because once they get to the open market it seems unlikely they’ll be back in Jets colours for next season (and beyond).

Illegal Curve Hockey Show: Saturday Podcast. On the show this weekend we chatted about the report that the Jets had “tabled” offers to Dylan DeMelo, Brenden Dillon and Sean Monahan. Which of the three is key to signing for Winnipeg? Scott Arniel’s effusive praise of Nikolaj Ehlers this week. A look at the 2024 Draft from a Winnipeg perspective.
