Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note: The Jets held an optional practice on Monday as they made some tweaks ahead of their second game of round 1 which is this evening in Winnipeg. We learned yesterday that Morgan Barron is still not skating and Rick Bowness also indicated he was “probably still another week away”. Morning skate for the Jets gets underway at 11 AM CDT. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 8:30 PM CDT.

Winnipeg Sun: Wins, not stats, will define Jets’ Hellebuyck. If his individual numbers look un-Hellebuyckian by the end of the playoffs and his club has 16 wins do you really think he will be too concerned about it?

Winnipeg Sun: Avalanche coach Bednar got goosebumps from atmosphere in Jets’ arena. The atmosphere in the building for game 1 was special. We sometimes forget that not many folks have experienced the Whiteout live.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Morrissey not ready to compare himself to Colorado’s Makar, but he’s trying to get there. Sounds off given the Jets Dman was drafted in 2013 and the Avs defender in 2017. While both of the products of Calgary are dynamic, Makar has put up some ridiculous seasons from a points perspective.

Winnipeg Sun: Avalanche bringing more aggressive game and Jets need to respond. You can expect both hockey clubs to make adjustments ahead of game 2.

Winnipeg Free Press: Whiteout gets rave reviews from near and far. (Paywall). The fans deserve all the credit as they were sensational on Sunday.

Winnipeg Free Press: Hellebuyck all about winning. (Paywall). Can’t say I’m surprised.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets working to ensure no repeat of ‘23 meltdown. (Paywall). They’ve been there before taking game 1 and learned there is no point reading your own press clippings. It’s probably best the game ended 7-6 because that should keep them sharp for the re-match.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets try to make sense of frantic, ‘roller-coaster’ Game 1 win. (Paywall). It was interesting to hear how the crowd impacted the players.

Sportsnet: Lowry poised to help Jets assert their style in Game 2 vs. Avalanche. It may seem unfair but that is the reality when you’re tasked with trying to contain a line with one of the most dynamic players in the NHL.

Sportsnet: Pat McAfee blown away by ‘White Out,’ but doesn’t know where Winnipeg is. Thought it was a pretty funny clip as he gushed about the energy brought by the fanbase in Manitoba.
