Note: The Jets winning streak of three games came to a crashing halt on Monday afternoon in Calgary as a three straight goals for Sean Monahan (sixth natural hat trick in 2.0 history) wasn’t enough as a desperate Flames team showed way more urgency than Winnipeg scoring five straight to take it 6-3. The Jets have no time to lament things as it was right back to Winnipeg last night so they could face a Wild team that looked like they were going to be crushed by the Canucks in St. Paul yesterday before Minnesota erupted for seven 3rd period goals and a 10-7 victory. While this game was originally billed as one for potential shenanigans given the Hartman/Perfetti nonsense from last game, with the Wild only two points back of the Blues for 4th in Central, they need these points. An optional morning skate for the home team gets underway at 10:30 AM CST. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Minnesota, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose were hosting Super Hero day which is appropriate given it was gonna take some super powers to stop an Admirals team that hadn’t lost a game in 2024 including a 4-0 win over Manitoba on Saturday afternoon. Second straight game between the Moose and Admirals that the Flyers have had a scout here in Winnipeg. Usually I’m not making note of scouts since they are at every game but this seems notable as it’s been a different scout at each game. Of course they could be scouting the Preds farm club as well. It was a back and forth contest which really could have gone either way but Milwaukee broke a 3-3 tie in the 3rd with a goal that needed to be reviewed but ultimately counted. With Collin Delia pulled for an extra attacker the Moose did not look particularly effective and the Admirals would go on to win 4-3 which makes them 17-0-0 in the months of January and February (Ties them for 2nd longest streak in AHL history).  Moose are off today.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ opponent shouldn’t matter, but maybe it does. Paul gives you his breakdown of the game.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets cave in Calgary. Sports are a funny business. On Saturday night these same Jets were on top of the mountain and by this morning they are not. And as with all things the reality is somewhere in the middle.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets Stanley Cup contender checklist: What are they lacking in 2024? (Paywall). The answer may have been different for folks prior to yesterday’s game but such is the nature of being a fan. Murat chimes in with what is missing from this group.

Former Flame Sean Monahan scored a natural hat trick in the first period, but it was not enough as Calgary scored five unanswered to beat the Jets. TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to give his thoughts on Monahan’s natural hat trick.
