Note: The Jets took Friday off after losing both games they played this week in Pennsylvania by a combined score of 7-1. The slide has hit five games although the only good news for Winnipeg is that the top six teams in the Central have been losing of late. The Penguins lost 3-2 to the Wild last night in St.Paul. Morning skate for the home team gets underway at 9:30 AM CST. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6 PM CST.
Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Pittsburgh we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.
Note III: The Moose suffered two bad defeats to the Griffins on home ice before the AHL All-Star break and they got a measure of revenge last night in Grand Rapids. After spotting the home team a 3-0 edge they scored three goals (G1: Reichel, G2: Chibrikov with big assist from Michael Hutchinson, G3: Barteaux) in 2:07 early in the 3rd to tie the game. OT solved nothing. They got a nice goal by Jets prospect Nikita Chibrikov in round 3 which he emphasized with this ice-cold celly followed by this one from
Ville Heinola in round 5 (both of which were needed to keep game going) before falling in the 10th round. They will have a re-match with the Griffins in Grand Rapids tonight. Puck drop is at 6 PM CST.
Note IV: You’ve probably got lots of Jets related questions right now and Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press will have some answers for you. Send him an email here: wiebesworld9@gmail.com.
Note V: Be sure to join us this morning for the Illegal Curve Hockey Show for two hours of Jets talk starting at 9 AM. We will be joined by former NHLer J.P. Vigier to talk Jets and Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review to talk Penguins.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: It wouldn’t hurt for Jets to go back to what works. I said as much last night and wondered aloud when we might see 27/55/13 reunited. On the Heinola front a move the Moose made today leads me to think it won’t be today and then even if he is recalled tomorrow the likelihood is he wouldn’t play before Wednesday’s game against the Sharks so he could practice.
Winnipeg Free Press: Return to basics key to struggling Jets getting back in win column. (Paywall). The old Kiss principal. Keep it simple stupid.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Five reasons for the Winnipeg Jets’ concerning 5-game losing streak. Murat provides his insight into the most recent streak.
Daily Faceoff: There’s reasons to be concerned about the Winnipeg Jets’ offense. Given they almost suffered their fourth shutout in the last eight games and a bunch of guys haven’t scored in ages you can say that again.
Global News: Jets too good for repeat of last season’s second-half slide. This is not the same team as last year but I do understand folks alarm bells going off seeing a similar pattern manifest itself seemingly for the second straight year.
Jets audio:
Sportsnet 960: Why the Winnipeg Jets have hopped on the struggle bus. Patrick Dumas was joined by Hustler Paterson of Winnipeg Sports talk. The guys have a discussion on why the Winnipeg Jets have fallen on hard times as of late. Winnipeg has not been playing great since the All star break, Paterson explains why the Jets have struggled to score, what they might be looking to add at the deadline, and what the panic level is at for Winnipeg fans who are desperate to see their team have some playoff success.
