Winnipeg Sun:  Cherry fired up about Jets.  He’s been a big supporter of NHL hockey returning to this city. I still remember his speech at the Jets 1.0 funeral and the exit interview he gave Peter Jordan.   He will get a GIANT reception at the MTS Centre during the home opener.

SportingNews:  Prospects’ plan – turn heads.  Jets 1st round draft pick Mark Scheifele listed as player to watch in this years Young Stars Tournament.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets logo flies high.  The more I see the logo the more it grows on me.  I don’t have that instant thumping in my heart as when I see the old Jets logo, but over time I’m sure it will be giving Jets fans hearts some palpitations.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Up close and personal with Johnny Oduya.  A little info on the Swedish defenceman.

After the jump we get some audio from the Winnipeg Sun discussing the support all the teams in Winnipeg are getting plus a discussion on why it is a great time to be a Winnipegger, NHL.com gives the final 30 for 30 on the Jets.  From ‘Around the NHL’ we learn about the Flames dumping Lankow in the desert and Marchand hero welcome in Halifax.

NHL.com:  30 in 30 – Winnipeg JetsI like the Jets outlook.  While it might appear brighter in terms of post season play a year or three down the line, for right now fans in Winnipeg are just happy to have an NHL hockey club to support.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Issue of public funding for sports facilities resolved.  Adam Wazny takes the Conference Board of Canada report and puts a local spin on it.

Winnipeg Sun:  The sweet summer of the Jets.  I’ve said it before and I will say it again, “best summer ever!”

Winnipeg Sun:  Winnipeg a red hot sports town (audio).  Sun sports editor Ted Wyman, columnist Paul Friesen and football writer Kirk Penton discuss the incredible support the Bombers, Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Winnipeg Jets are receiving from the city’s fans.

The Hinton Parklander:  Great time to be a Winnipegger.  We are not big boasters here in Manitoba but this summer has been a summer of change.  Perhaps it will only last a season, but the positivity and optimism will hopefully last.

Illegal Curve:  Staying on top of the latest Winnipeg Jets news.  Just some links to social media and/or other methods of staying on top of the latest Jets news provided by IC.

 Around the NHL:

Toronto Star:  Flames dump Langkow in desert.  That’s a sizable amount of cap space the Flames are saving as a result of this one for one trade.

CBC:  Marchand gets hero’s homecoming in Halifax.  He’s the type of player you hate to play against.  Shows a lot of heart and determination out on the ice.  Sounds like he had quite the turnout in Halifax for his day with the Cup.
