Note: As September rolls around and all this week we wanted to bring to your attention the Pass it Forward program which provides help to youth in Winnipeg who wish to play hockey but require aid in getting the necessary equipment. The program is in it’s 4th year, they have a brand new website, an active twitter feed @PassItForwardca, and they are giving away a team-signed picture of last season’s opening faceoff. Be sure to check it out.
Jets news:
Jets Gear Store: The Home Team. The 1st ever Winnipeg Jets childrens book “The Home Team” is now available at the Jets Gear store! The link is to the Jets Gear store hours and locations which is where you can purchase this kids book.
In Goal Magazine: Montoya’s new Jets mask. If you missed this yesterday, Al Montoya’s new mask was revealed. It pays homage to the old school WWII planes as well as his Cuban heritage and family members. What are your thoughts?
Winnipeg Free Press: NHLers play waiting game. Would be quite the scrimmage to watch at the IcePlex.
CBA news:
Buffalo News: Money issues again threaten NHL season. We are about to begin the most important week of the NHL season. Will fans be waking up a week ago today to a locked out NHL or will both sides come together and prevent another lockout?
Edmonton Journal: NHL moves to get back control of the league from players. Only problem for fans of the Winnipeg Jets and presumably for other teams is that most fans have already made payments on their season ticket commitments and you know they won’t be receiving any of that back.
TSN: Daly, Steve Fehr speak briefly as CBA expiration draws near. So much for that sense of urgency.
The Province: It’s time to consider getting rid of the NHLPA all together. A radical idea that has zero chance of ever happening but fun to consider nonetheless.
NHL news:
CBC: Who will win the next Maurice Richard trophy? One would have to consider the winner last season, Steven Stamkos, as the front runner again this season. Who would you pick from this list?
ESPN: Is Marchand’s extension a bargain for B’s? Perhaps I need to take off my 1980’s glasses so I can truly see the value in signing a guy who got 55 points to a 4.5 million dollar contract.
National Post: Leafs goalie Ben Scrivens’ future filled with question marks. Big question for the Leafs is what they will do in net next season.
