Note: The Jets played a pretty solid game last night against the defending Stanley Cup champion Golden Knights but a late power play goal against gave the visitors the edge and they’d go on to win the game by a final score of 5-3. With the loss Winnipeg drops to 1-3-0 on the season where the process has been right more often than not but they haven’t been able to translate that into better results aka wins.  Today they are scheduled to practice at 12 noon before they head to Edmonton where they will face the Oilers tomorrow night. Stay tuned for the Jets Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose, after a week of practice, will finally return to game action this evening as they welcome Iowa to town for a pair of games. They will be doing it without one player as the Jets will make a recall before they head to Alberta. The team did announce who their alternate captains would be this season. Morning skate gets underway at 10 AM and puck drop is at 7 PM.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets shooting themselves in foot to start season. Perhaps it is better they “get it out of their system” now rather than having a January to March swoon. They do have to pull themselves up by their boot straps however because you really cannot afford to fall too far behind. Scott also wrote about the play of Alex Iafallo and more.

Winnipeg Sun: ‘That’s crazy’: Hometown Golden Knights players struck by sparse Jets crowds. It’s interesting how Winnipeg garnered so much pearl clutching given San Jose and Buffalo also had poor attendance this week. Again that doesn’t change the fact that folks aren’t coming out to games at Canada Life but I just found it interesting that it was loudest about ‘Peg City and not nearly as loud about these two markets.

Winnipeg Free Press: Golden Knights capitalize on Jets’ sloppy play in 5-3 victory. (Paywall). Poppy was a little sloppy last night as the Jets just couldn’t get out of their own way. Overall they played a good game against the Champs but some mental mistakes cost them points.

Winnipeg Free Press: Mason Appleton jumps to top line. (Paywall). Sounds like both 55/81 advocated for his promotion to the top line although you have to wonder if Nino Niederreiter might be a better fit on line one.

Global News: Defensive struggles continue for Jets in 5-3 loss to Golden Knights. Sloppy plays and poor passing seemed to be the hallmark of the Jets backend on Thursday night.

Jets video:

TSN: Thompson grounds the Jets, as Vegas improve to 5-0. It appeared that this one would be heading to overtime, but a questionable non-penalty call lead to Jack Eichel’s eventual game-winner. Jamie McLennan joins SportsCentre to breakdown the game and why a few costly errors from the Jets was the difference.
