Note: On day 3 of Jets training camp we heard from Dylan DeMelo (watch here), Declan Chisholm (watch here) and Jets head coach Rick Bowness (watch here). We learned that 2023 1st rounder Colby Barlow was dealing with a flu and that Nikolaj Ehlers neck spasms would likely cause him to miss skate today. We’ve got the full recap here.
Note II: Training camp for the Jets gets started with Team Numminen at 10 AM with Team Selanne on the ice at 1 PM. Here are the Jets training camp groups including the full rosters and schedule. We will have complete coverage today so be sure to stay tuned to this site and our YouTube channel.
Note III: Reminder that today is Fan Fest at Hockey For All Centre which gets started at 8 AM and in addition to watching Jets training camp you can come meet us as we will be doing the Illegal Curve Hockey Show from 9 AM until 11 AM inside the complex. We will be joined by Murat Ates of The Athletic Winnipeg and play-by-play voice of the Jets Paul Edmonds.
Note IV: Worth remembering that the Jets are unveiling a new jersey that is expected to be worn a few times this season. That gets way at 11:45 AM and we will have it covered.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: It’s come full circle for Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey. Incredible to think that the kid the Jets drafted back in 2013 is now a veteran who is taking a kid drafted last year under his wing.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets Notebook. Scott’s notebook covers: 1) Intensity of training camp. 2) Updates on Barlow/Ehlers. 3) Dylan DeMelo. 4) Declan Chisholm.
Winnipeg Free Press: New Jets forward Iafallo changes roles with ease. (Paywall). We know how much Jets bench boss Rick Bowness appreciates players who have a Swiss Army knife versatility. Unsolicited he mentioned Vlad Namestnikov and a player with a similar appear was recently acquired winger Alex Iafallo.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets bench boss steadfast in building player/coach relations. (Paywall). He clearly has an ability to connect with people.
Winnipeg Free Press: Chisholm has high hopes. (Paywall). These were (in part) the words the 2018 5th rounder, who was an AHL All-Star last season, said on our end of season Moose roundtable “I am confident in my skillset and I think I’ve proven myself again after a great season with the Moose. So I think I am going to go in there with all the confidence I built up throughout this year and just do what I can do at camp and earn a spot. That’s all you can do.”. He knows what he’s capable of doing and will get his shot in the NHL this season to show just that.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets training camp: Physical play, depth forwards, prospect watch. (Paywall).
Global News: Questions remain, but upcoming season must be different for Winnipeg Jets. The next wave of Jets prospect forwards aren’t quite ready to assume new roles but it also feels like the current group may be getting it’s last kick at the can this season.
