Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Cole Perfetti to get shot as second-line centre. This team has been looking for someone to seize that role since Bryan Little’s premature “retirement” from playing back in 2019. Once upon a time it was thought that Jack Roslovic (2015 1st) could find himself up the middle but the team chose to play him on the wing when he graduated to the NHL and obviously they dealt Pierre-Luc Dubois this summer which leaves the 2020 1st rounder as the heir apparent for that spot.
Winnipeg Sun: Long-term deal or not, Jets coach Rick Bowness will keep firing truth bombs. He certainly doesn’t seem to shy away from speaking his mind.
Winnipeg Sun: Nothing’s off the table for the Winnipeg Jets when it comes to Scheifele, Hellebuyck. It sure would make for an interesting season if these two players remain on the roster after the trade deadline in early March without contract extensions.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets coach, GM stoked for start of training camp. (Paywall). Hope springs eternal at the start of every season.
Winnipeg Free Press: Bowness’ playoff-exit rant forgotten. (Paywall). While I’m sure it is I would be hard pressed to believe if it was still a thing that we’d be hearing about it. The truth, I suspect, is we shall see how this team looks in a month or two and what their record looks like to see if all is kumbaya or not.
Winnipeg Free Press: Chevy high on new players, team’s potential, mum on Scheifele and Hellebuyck. (Paywall). Lots of talk about the depth of the organization.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets training camp: 7 storylines to follow ahead of Day 1. (Paywall). Murat’s seven include: 1) Jets being in “win now” mode. 2) Buyers at deadline. 3) 37/55 negotiations are ongoing but not imminent. 4) Perfetti as 2C. 5) Kupari is a roster lock. 6) Forward lines seem set. 7) Chisholm a long way back.
Global News: ‘We all want to be Winnipeg Jets:’ Bowness says rift with players is over. Suspect the unified tone will be one we hear from the players in the coming days and I wouldn’t expect anything else.
Jets video:
TSN: Bowness using found knowledge to push Jets and himself. Rick Bowness spoke to the media ahead of training camp and admitted that he learned “a couple of things” about the Jets down the stretch in the aftermath of his rant about their play in Game 5 against Vegas, and the players’ pushback from the podium on locker cleanout day. TSN’s John Lu has more, including how Winnipeg’s training camp could have a different feel on the ice.
