Hockey’s Future:  Lukas Sutter carries on the family line of work.  Hockey, like horse racing, can sometimes pick a winner based on the bloodlines and in this instance, the Jets feel like they have made a solid pick with their 2nd round choice.  He is right in that fans will be happy to hear that he and the Jets number 1 pick in the 2011 Entry Draft, Mark Scheifele, have developed some chemistry.

AHL.com:  Caps agree to terms with Kaunisto. Perhaps the Jets Chris Thorburn, a fellow Sault Ste. Marie resident, convinced him to sign with the organization.

AHL.com: Wolves sign Negrin.  The Jets got Negrin as part of the Akim Aliu trade last season.

CBA news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Time for NHL fans to tune in for the sounds of bargaining.  Fans would be naive to believe that they will be the beneficiaries of this process.  Despite the fact that they drive this vehicle with their attendance, this is simply between the players and owners and whom will get a bigger share of the pie.  A pie produced by the fans of course.

The Tennessean: Predators are optimistic NHL can avoid lockout.  Can any small market team in a non-traditional market afford a lockout?  Not in actual cost, but in the loss of fan support.

New York Post: Restart in NHL faceoff. We are under a month till the CBA expires and you get the feeling neither side is any closer to a deal than they were when they first started this process.

The Province: Winter Classic, $200m NBC deal at risk as CBA talks stall.  Which is why most observers feel the NHL has a position of strength until such time as the above game is in jeopardy.

ESPN:  NHL labor talks to continue.  The talks re-start today.

Other hockey news:

National Post:  Junior hockey’s union plan looks shaky.  The CHL could remove this dilemma if they change the post playing career education funds for players.  With just 2% of CHLers making it to the NHL, this isn’t such a bad idea.
